Fukang People's Hospital Uses Vascular Imaging Device to "Navigate" Pediatric Venipuncture

Vein Finder Technology Helps Make Pediatric Venipuncture Easier

Venipuncture is a routine medical procedure, but it can be challenging when treating infants and children. Small veins, thick soft tissue, and limited vein visibility may increase the difficulty of intravenous access and cause discomfort for young patients.

To address this challenge, more hospitals are introducing vein visualization devices to assist healthcare professionals during pediatric procedures.

A Real Hospital Case: Improving Vein Visibility for Children

Recently, Fukang People's Hospital introduced a vein finder device to support pediatric venipuncture, helping nurses better identify difficult-to-see veins.

A 4-year-old child visited the hospital for pneumonia treatment and required intravenous infusion. Due to the child's body condition, the veins on the hand were difficult to observe clearly.

Before the puncture, the nurse used a vein finder device and placed it above the child's arm. Within seconds, the vein pattern was displayed clearly on the skin surface, showing the vein direction and distribution like a visual vascular map.

With this additional guidance, the nurse was able to select the puncture location more confidently and complete the procedure smoothly.

This case demonstrates how vein visualization technology can provide valuable assistance in pediatric nursing.

How Does a Vein Finder Work?

A vein finder uses near-infrared (NIR) imaging technology to detect differences between blood vessels and surrounding tissues.

Because hemoglobin absorbs near-infrared light differently from other tissues, the device can identify vein structures and project the vein image onto the skin surface in real time.

Healthcare professionals can view:

  • Vein location

  • Vein direction

  • Vein distribution

  • Vascular patterns

This allows nurses to better understand vein conditions before needle insertion.

Benefits of Vein Finders in Pediatric Care

Easier Difficult Vein Identification

Children's veins are often harder to locate compared with adults. Vein visualization technology provides an additional visual reference for healthcare professionals.

Improved Procedure Confidence

By making hidden veins visible, vein finders help nurses make more accurate decisions during venipuncture.

Better Patient Experience

Reducing repeated attempts can help minimize discomfort and anxiety for young patients and their families.

Supporting the Future of Pediatric Nursing

With the combination of clinical experience and advanced imaging technology, vein finders are becoming valuable tools in pediatric departments, infusion centers, emergency rooms, and other healthcare settings.

By transforming invisible veins into visible guidance, vein visualization technology helps healthcare professionals provide safer, more efficient, and more comfortable care for patients of all ages.
